ladies and gentlemen: my topic is honesty.as a correspondent of the qingdao morning news, i visited dr.james gilman, the president of the international committee for marco polo studies in england.in this picture, this is james, and

this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth.this is a true story./chuzhong/chusan/ years ago, james lived in qingdao.then he was only 5 years old.he often visited the aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon.he was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.in the late 1930s, when the japanese occupied qingdao, his family had to leave.on his last day in qingdao, he ran to the aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth.he kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life.it was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older.finally he decided to put right his childish error.in 20xx, he visited qingdao and returned it to the aquarium with his sincere apologies.he received a warm welcome.when james visited qingdao, i accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit.i was deeply touched by his honesty.it has taught me a lot.i think to err is human.the important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error.honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour.so we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do.i would like to say to all of my friends: let’s be honest people of good moral character.thank you.ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,i am chinese.i am proud of being a chinese with five thousand years of civilization behind.

i’ve learned about the four great inventions made by our forefathers.i’ve learned about the great wall and the yangtze river.i’ve learned about zhang hengand i’ve learned about zheng he.who says the yellow river civilization has vanished?i know that my ancestors have made miracleson this fertile land and we’re still making miracles.who can ignore the fact that we have established ourselves as a great state in the world, that we have devised our own nuclear weapons, that we have successfully sent our satellites into space, and that our gnp ranks no.7 in the world? we have experienced the plunders by other nations, and we have experienced the war.yet, based on such ruins, there still stands our nation----china, unyielding and unconquerable! i once came across an american tourist.she said, “china has a history of five thousand years, but the us only has a history of 200 years.five thousand years ago, china took the lead in the world, and now it is the us that is leading.” my heart was deeply touched by these words.i ……此处隐藏5824个字……teaching result is much less than that of the one who just graduated from a not-well-renowned college. When lecturing, the teacher only repeated what the text-books says, which was very dull so the his students' interest in learning was not aroused. His teaching was short of unity of teaching and learning. At present there is a fact that we know a few brilliant and top college graduates are not qualified for their posts. The reason for it may be lack of the ability to combine knowledge learnt from books with pragmatics in their work. Students of this kind will be successful in every exam but they will be able to use freely their knowledge in their posts. Don't you think it waste training such persons for the country?

To sum up from the above, I can say marks are not absolutely authoritative for some. If we neglect training and developing the students' ability and competence and if we only seek for the high marks, we will be absolutely wrong. We should take an objective attitude towards the marks. Neither should we neglect them nor should we overvalue them like a God.
